Segro Property Partnership with Airport

Airport property partnership with Segro have completed four deals including Stansted and Gatwick estates totaling more than 70,000 sq.ft.

Five year lease extension to its existing 21,500 sq.ft premises at Stansted cargo centre and ten year deal on 18,000 sq.ft of new space has been signed by Royal mail.

Worldwide Flight Services has agreed a five-year lease for a 20,700 sq ft unit at Gatwick Cargo Centre.

Remaining sq.ft was distributed among aviation service firm Fernley and Jet engine maintenance. Fernley will relocate from its existing 3,260 sq ft property to a 8,880 sq ft unit, while jet engine maintenance will take additional 3,000 sq ft of space next to its 11,750 sq ft premises.

All parties remain unpresented at the time of deal and Jones Lang LaSalle acted on behalf of the Royal Mail.

Travel Pods at Heathrow Airport

Long 60 years designing and invention has been able to provide a driverless, battery powered and laser guided pod to carry passengers between terminals at London’s Heathrow airport. This automatic travel pods has been designed by a British transport company called ULTRA.

The driverless vehicle has capacity of four people to carry between the business car park and the main building. It can travel at up to 25mph with average wait of just 34 seconds. Travel pods use laser sensors so the pods find their way around.

This driverless vehicle is estimated to cut number of bus journeys around the Heathrow by 50,000 per year, says BAA.

Luton & Manchester Airports Trial Holographic Employees.

image1218672262.jpgManchester and Luton airports have unveiled holograms dressed as employees to help travellers be better informed about airlines and luggage rules.

Apparently they look so real that some airline passengers have tried to hand their passports to them!

The holograms are of average height and stand between check-in and security.

At Luton airport the holograms advise passengers how to prepare for a flight before entering the security area.
By the way they are called Holly and Graham!

At Manchester airport they advise passengers on the liquids restriction rules. Don’t know their names!!

So when you’re booking your Manchester airport parking or Luton airport parking just remember to look out for them when you get in the airport.

Apparently there is some displeasure at the soaring cost of parking a car at Gatwick airport. According to a recent article if you wanted to park on the airport in Gatwick’s Long Stay car park for a given week in December 2010 it would cost you £75.20, an increase of around 67% based on same dates last year.

If you read our recent post on ON vs. OFF Airport Parking Charges or read our webpage – Comparing the Cost of OFF and ON Airport Parking you would already know that if people just searched a bit more and not always chose the official on airport parking car parks that you could save a lot of money.

For example using the UK Airport Car Parks website you could get parking off the airport itself for only £49.60, a saving of £25.60. The only real difference being that you would have a bus transfer journey of about 8 minutes as apposed to the 3 minutes with the Long Stay car park on Gatwick airport.

Since Gatwick airport was taken over in December 2009 by Global Infrastructure Partners investment fund it has vastly improved its customer services and also drastically reduced queueing times.

Apparently now most passengers can expect to pass through security checks in 5 minutes or less. As well as this posotive customer feedback has more than doubled.

Bosses at gatwick airport said they were pleased with the direction the airport was going in but there was still plenty to do.

London City Airport & BA

One of the new routes is to Stokholm and BA are planning a double daily scedule to this airport. BA have also introduced some very competitive pricing for this route, more information on pricing etc. can be found at the British Airways website.

It seems that East Midlands airport were not content at being named as the “Star Regional UK Airport” this year, they have now also been named as “Airport of the Year 2010″ at the National Travel Trade Gazette in London this month.

Voted for by independent industry observers and travel agents, East Midlands airport was winner because of it high levels of customer satisfaction, excellent product development and its good relationship with travel partners.

At the beginning of September 2010 Emirates airlines flew their new Airbus A380 into Manchester airport for the first time. A large crowd had gathered to see it touch down for the first time.

The Airbus A380 can hold up to 525 passengers based on economy,business and first class configuration. Speaking of first and business classes the A380 offers some truly amazing levels of service. There are 14 private suites for first class passengers and business class passengers are equiped with private pods. First and business class passengers can also expect to find personal mini bars, personal flat screen TV’s and bedside clocks with their private areas furnished in burnished walnut. However, economy class travellers will also notice an improvement in the amount of space they are allocated per seat.

A few A380 facts :

  • Each aircraft costs £200m.
  • Each aircraft weighs 421 tonnes.
  • It consumes 3 litres of fuel per passenger per kilometre.
  • You’ll need approximately 3,600 litres of paint to paint it.
  • It’s 85% recyclable.

Manchester airport managing director Andrew Cornish said that the arrival of the Airbus A380 was ‘a dream come true’. The Airbus A380 will now be a daily visitor to Manchester airport.
