Pair Caught Stealing from Luggage at Luton Airport

Two cleaners from Luton airport have been caught stealing from luggage by a police sting operation. Hidden cameras were put in place in a room which the baggage carousel passed through. The two cleaners who worked for an outside contractor were clearly seen opening passengers luggage as it passed through on the conveyor belt. the pair were given prison sentences after admitting six counts of stealing.

Amazingly since the two were arrested the rate of thefts from luggage has gone down 77% at Luton airport! The  airport was quick to point out that with approximately 700,ooo passengers passing through the airport each month this counted as a very small percentage of all luggage handled at Luton airport. The airport also recommended that all passengers locked their cases and kept all valuables in their hand luggage.

Birmingham Airport Comes Out On Top

Birmingham Airport Voted the Best In the UK

Birmingham Airport Voted the Best in the UK

In a recent survey Birmingham airport has been voted the most popular airport in the UK. More than 2,300 holidaymakers were surveyed by comparison site Airport Transfers. The survey was based on marks out of ten for things like airport cleanliness, staff friendliness and check-in effeciency.

Birmingham airport received the highest marks in three of the six categories, making them the outright winners. It also seems that more and more holidaymakers are prefering to depart from a regional airport rather than leaving from a larger airport. In my own experience I always prefer Leeds Bradford airport to Manchester airport, not because I don’t like Manchester airport, it’s just that Leeds Bradford is much closer to me and easier to get around.

Birmingham airport were follwed by Cardiff, Liverpool and Manchester airports. Also Luton airport apparently came in as the worst airport. I’ve flown from Luton airport before, don’t quite agree with this because it was a very tidy and friendly airport when I flew from there last year.

Get Entertained at Manchester Airport this Summer

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Four entertainers employed by the operator will do magic tricks and sing for passengers waiting to check in to their flight. This will be ongoing until September 3rd. The entertainers should be easy to spot because they’ll be in orange and blue uniforms.

The Managing Director of Manchester Airport Andrew Cornish stated that they wanted passengers to have a good time whilst passing through the airport.

Luton Airport to charge £2 for Using Trolleys!

Extra Charge to Just Push Your Luggage Around

Luton Airport Luggage Trolley Charges

Luton Airport Luggage Trolley Charges

Luton airport has come in for some critisism lately for charging travellers £2 for the use of baggage trolleys. As stated in a few articles travellers are maybe use to airlines adding on extra charges, especially the low cost airlines, but getting stung by an airport now seems to be the last straw.

£2 doesn’t seem to be that much but I guess it might be the principle of the matter which will possibly see more familys pulling their luggage behind them instead of using a trolley.

Bristol airport has also upped its trolley charges from £1 to £2 and now Cardiff airport are talking about doing the same.

Actually it maybe unfare to blame Luton airport directly because all charge increases have come direct from the airports trolley operator Bagport. It has also been stated that Luton airport will not benefit from this increase, but my guess is that passengers will see it as an extra charge from the airports themselves.

Don’t get stung by airport parking charges also, compare all aspects of parking your car at Luton airport and save a fortune in the process –  Luton Airport Parking

With 86% of it’s short haul and domestic flights departing on time BA has has rocketed itself to the top of the on time departure list. BA also finds itself of the international on time departures list with 87% of flights departing on time.

This surely will be good news for British Airways after it’s recent cabin crew disputes and quaterly profit figures.

Gatwick Airport Gets £1 Billion Investment

Monday, July 19th, 2010

image731663257.jpgGatwick airport has recently received £1billion of new investment from it’s American owners Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP).

The new investment will see a new multi million pound extension being built to the North Terminal. Passengers will also be able to use the new Inter Terminal Shuttle which has been financed by GIP.

In fact according to a Gatwick airport official virtually the whole of the airport will see an improvement over the next two years.

Nobody was able to say for sure if part of the money was possibly being sidelined for a second runway… but that is a totally different story!

Luton Airport Parking – All Round Choices

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

The different choices for Luton Airport Parking have increased quite a lot in the past five years or so. Not just in the amount of car parks but also in the different types of car parking available.

Car parking at Luton airport can be split up into three main categories, they are:

Valet Parking – turn up at the car park, check in at the reception and your car is parked for you. With this option your car keys are kept by the car park.

Self Park – turn up at the car park and simply park your car yourself. This option is generally available at most ON airport car parks. With this option you keep your car keys yourself.

Meet & Greet – turn up at the departures terminal and a driver will then take your car to a secure parking compound. On your return your car will be waiting for you when you leave arrivals. You do have to inform the meet and greet company when you expect to arrive at the airport for your outward and inward journeys but this is by far the most convenient option.
